On Friday 26th May, Real Big Things reached adulthood and turned 18. So, we decided to celebrate our coming-of-age by talking about the delightfully debaucherous topics of sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll at the Astor Theatre.
After sharing a (caffeinated) beverage with our party guests and lining our stomachs with pastries, we settled into our art deco seats so the real festivities could begin.
First up was sex. This saw Dave Heysen dive into the world of online dating, where he explained that people have no idea what they’re looking for in a partner. Bree Turner then educated us about female sexuality, covering everything from the orgasm gap to the correct names for sex organs. We then turned our attention to drugs. It was here that James Martin shone a light onto the dark corner of the web, where fairtrade cocaine is as easy to buy as a pair of shoes. This was before Prash Puspanathan revealed the healing power of psychedelics and the nuances of microdosing. Finally, Dean Cherny treated us to a rock ’n’ roll-style Q&A with our very own Dan Monheit about the oft-forgotten aspects of the music industry.
If you missed the party or simply want to relive it, don’t fret – we captured all of the action. Check it out here.
We’ll be back again with Real Big Things #19 on Friday 25th August. Tickets are on sale now and already moving fast, so don’t dawdle.
